It looks to be a wonderful program and the kids are working very hard. Sons of the American Revolution Members of Sons of the American Revolution came to BCA to reenact parts of American History for our BCA students. They gave BCA an opportunity to be included two contest. One contest was for our upper elementary students to construct posters about certain individuals in our history book. These students have opportunity to win cash prizes. Our 8th grades have an opportunity to win cash prizes also by creating a brochure that tells about our constitution or the Bill of Rights. Good Luck to all. We are excited to hear about any possible winners. Written by Nick Martinez The Meaning of Easter The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus Preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He is really the Son of God and that He has conquered death once and for all. However, Easter did not always symbolize Christ's resurrection from the dead and the meaning of Easter was quite different that what Christians celebrate today. The Feast day of Easter was originally a pagan celebration of renewal and rebirth. Celebrated in the early Spring, it honored the pagan Saxon goddess Eastre. When the earl missionaries converted the Saxons to Christianity, the holiday, since it fell around the same time as the traditional memorial of Christ's resurrection from the dead, was merged with the pagan celebration, and became known as Easter. The meaning of Easter was also changed to reflect its new Christian orientation. Today, the meaning of Easter, for millions of Christians, is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, and His glorious promise of eternal life for all who receive Him as Lord and Savior. Teen Mental Health Problems Rising A recent Pew report revealed a disturbing rise in anxiety and depression teens born after 1994. According to the report, "teens (born after 1994) are suffering from much higher rates of anxiety and depression" than those between 1982 and 1994. Seven in ten teens say that these are big issues in their communities. In a recent article in the Guardian magazine, psychologist Jonathan Haidt and Pamela Paresky also reported a similar sharp increase in teen anxiety and depression. Today's teen girls are being admitted often to hospitals for intentionally cutting themselves. Since 2009 the rate of these hospital admissions is up 60% in the United States and Britain. An even greater tragedy is occurring with teen suicides. In 2016 the suicide rate for boys was up 34% over the years from 2006-2010. For girls the suicide rate climbed an astonishing 82% over prior years. Clearly, it is time for all parents and teen friends to watch for signs of metal problems in our young people. Our constant vigilance could save a precious life. All articles are written and posted by the student newspaper staff.
